Kim Giancani Named Coach of the Month for March

Kim_Giancani“Leader, Mentor, Friend, and just plain amazing” are the words used to describe March’s Coach of the Month, Kim Giancani.  Kim has been coaching for 35 years in soccer, volleyball, gymnastics, cheerleading, baton twirling and basketball.  She is currently working to complete her NCCP level 3 and is the founder of an international basketball program called Wildcat PRIDE.

The PRIDE program runs in Canada and the USA and is based on individual athlete development.  It is made up of fundamental basketball skill development, cross training, sport nutrition, strength and conditioning, injury prevention and advanced basketball skill development.  Kim’s athletes are required to participate off the court as well.  They partake in special events and local charities to give back to the community.

COACHES ASSOCIATION OF ONTARIO CELEBRATES COACHING EXCELLENCE AT ANNUAL CONFERENCE

The Coaches Association of Ontario celebrated nine outstanding coaches from all levels of sport at the 2010 Coaching Excellence Awards this past weekend. The awards took place on the second evening of the Ontario Coaches Conference which ran from February 26-28, 2010 in Guelph

Close to 300 coaches and sport administrators from a variety of sports gathered at the annual conference to network, share and work towards a higher level of NCCP certification.  The Quest for Gold lottery made this possible.

The awards ceremony was once again the crown jewel of the conference, an opportunity for top coaches to be honoured by their peers for the ongoing and significant contributions they make to both their sports and athlete.

Play, Live, Be Tobacco-Free…Ontario Grant Program promotes tobacco-free sport and recreation programming in Ontario

tobacco_logoIn an effort to keep tobacco industry products out of sport and recreation and through a grant provided by the Ministry of Health Promotion Healthy Communities Fund, SPORT4ONTARIO, in collaboration with the Play, Live, Be, Tobacco-Free Provincial Collaborative*, is pleased to announce the Play, Live, Be Tobacco-Free…Ontario Grant Program. This grant program provides the opportunity for organizations to apply for grants up to $500.00 to develop and promote a Tobacco-Free Policy. Non-profit sport and recreation clubs, teams, leagues and organizations wishing to support and promote Tobacco-Free Policy and activities are invited to apply for funding.

The deadline for applications is 12:00 noon on March 12, 2010. Successful grant applicants will be notified by March 31, 2010. Click here to learn more and download the grant application.
