ONTARIO COACHING EXCELLENCE AWARDS

The Ontario Coaching Excellence Awards recognize outstanding coaches and their contributions to both their sport and athletes in Ontario. The annual selection of recipients is based on their unique contribution to sport through coaching. The awards are designed to recognize the contributions of a coach has made over a period of years in Ontario. Eligibility and Selection Criteria:

  1. Minimum 3 years coaching in Ontario
  2. Must reside and coach in the province of Ontario
  3. Nominee must have made a significant contribution to their sport/community/athletes
  4. Each nomination must be filled out to the best of the nominator's ability. To be a valid nomination, all information on the nomination form must be complete.

Nomination Process 

Thank you to those who nominated their coach! The awards nomination process is now closed.  The 2011 Ontario Coaching Excellence Awards will take place during the 2011 Ontario Coaches Conference from February 25-27, 2011. Nominations will be accepted in the late fall.

 

Award Categories (Male/Female in each)

Recreational/Grass Roots Athletes  - These are coaches who coach grass roots and recreational athletes of any age. The coaching level at this environment is primarily non-competitive and the emphasis is on skill development, participation and fun.

Developmental Athletes - The coaches at this level are responsible for athletes who are developing competitive skills as well as preparing athletes for higher levels of competition (Regional, Provincial, Canada Games or University competition).

School Sport Athletes - This award is given to a recipient who is a teacher - coach in the OFSAA school system. These coaches must be paid employees of an Ontario school (teacher, guidance counsellor, principal) who coach an extra cirricular activity.

High Performance Athletes - Coaches who are eligible at this level primarily coach athletes who compete at the National and/or International levels.

Selection

Award recipients will be chosen in each category - one male and one female from all eligible nominations received by the close of the deadline above.  A multi-sport selection committee will be convened for this purpose by the CAO in the case of the Recreational/Grassroots, Development, and High Performance Coaches. OFSAA will select the male and female School Sport Coaches.  In addition, the Board of Directors may from time to time make special recognition of individuals or organizations that have made a significant impact on coaches, coaching development or sport as they wish.
